And Still I Rise

And Still I Rise Review

its audience on a rare musical ride. The group carries us over the main highways and big-
city streets as well as the dusty back roads of the American south while weaving its way
to the crossroads where Blues and the roots of early Jazz were born.
H.B.O. draws its sound from field hollers, work songs, spirituals, soaring gospel voices
and the hard-driving rhythms of the deep Blues from the delta and the hill country of
northern Mississippi.
The group is driven by three voices, two guitars, drums/percussion, harmonica and a fiery four piece horn section (tuba, 2 trumpets, trombone, saxophone).
Spotlighting male and female voices, bold brassy sounds of New Orleans as well as
modern jazz horn sounds and a heavy back beat, H.B.O. serves up a powerful and
compelling new take on America's Blues heritage. With an emphasis on musical
exploration, Heritage Blues Orchestra digs into innovative musical territory making a
unique and exhilarating contribution to the African-American musical canvas.
You'll recognize this group as something breathtakingly new even as old African-
American musical traditions rise up to meet you.
Heritage Blues Orchestra is perhaps the most exciting African-American roots group to
come along in a very long time. Even as you sense just how heavily steeped the group
is in tradition, you'll marvel at how boldly they march into the musical land of the new

The American Folk Blues Festival 1962-1966, Vol. 1

The American Folk Blues Festival 1962-1966, Vol. 1 Review

Reelin’ In The Years Productions, in association with Experience Hendrix, bring you the American Folk Blues Festival 1962-1966 Volumes One & Two. The AFBF was an annual event that featured the cream of American blues musicians barnstorming their way across western Europe every fall from 1962 through 1966. Recorded live in a small TV studio in Germany, these historic and unseen performances have been lost for nearly 40 years. Filmed with superb camera work and pristine sound, each DVD contains 18 complete performances from the greatest blues musicians of all time. Captured during their heyday in an era of scant video documentation, these DVDs are truly one of the most unique and precious visual documents of the blues.

The American Folk Blues Festivals featured a dazzling array of talent that included such greats as Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker and Sonny Boy Williamson playing alongside other legends such as T-Bone Walker, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Memphis Slim and Big Mama Thornton to create the most significant group of blues artists ever assembled!

25

25 Review

Over the course of their illustrious 25-year career, Blues Traveler have sold more than 10 million combined units worldwide, played over 2,000 live shows in front of more than 30 million people, and, in "Run-Around," had the longest-charting radio single in Billboard history, which earned them a Grammy® for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. A television favorite, they have been featured on Saturday Night Live, Austin City Limits, VH1's Behind the Music and they hold the record for the most appearances of any artist on The Late Show with David Letterman.

On March 6, 2012, Hip-O Select/Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) releases Blues Traveler: 25, a 2-CD retrospective that spans the first 25 years of the band's incredible recording career. 25 features a total of 29 tracks including a newly recorded cover version of Sublime's "What I Got," their greatest hits, B-sides, unreleased demos and rarities-- among them a remix of "Run-Around" by acclaimed electronic producers Gunslinger, and excerpts from the band's online concept album Decision of the Skies: A Traveler Tale of Sun and Storm.

Hoodoo Man Blues (Expanded Edition)

Hoodoo Man Blues (Expanded Edition) Review

Hoodoo Man Blues is considered by most blues aficionados and fans to be one of the best blues albums of all time. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and was chosen by the readers of Living Blues magazine as a top ten Desert Island Blues disc. Recorded on September 22 & 23, 1965 Hoodoo Man Blues was the first studio album to capture a working Chicago blues band doing essentially what they did on stage without time constraints to accommodate the singles market. Of course both Junior Wells & Buddy Guy went on to become international blues stars. This new digipak re-issue contains 17 performances: the 12 songs from the original LP, 3 alternates that have been available on CD plus 2 never-before-released performances. There's one completely unissued song, I Ain't Stranded, and an alternate take to Yonder Wall in which Buddy Guy is playing through the Leslie speaker as he did on the title track, something guitar players are still copying to this day. The new four-panel digipak and 16 page booklet package contains nine never before seen photos from the recording session.
